Sunset Beach, Shelter Island

Sometimes you just have to go for the easy, pretty shots; going on vacation will do that to you. Now that I am back in the heat, traffic, and grime of Brooklyn, expect some grittier photographs next week!

Sunset Beach is not a beach, but a hotel on the beach on Shelter Island. This is a small lake just off to the side of the hotel. MaryAnne has a few shots of me paddling a rowboat across, because she didn’t want to get in the boat.

This is the last photo from Fire Island for a little while. I hope you enjoyed them!

Thanks to everyone who came to the show at Design Within Reach last night! It was a blast. If you didn’t get a chance to make it, the show will remain up until August 14.

This is on Watch Hill. The mosquitoes are the size of helicopters, I am covered in red welts this week.

I’ve got a whole series of these coming up. I am in love with the bleached out textures of the wood and the sand and the flora on Fire Island. When I first got off the ferry, I began to wonder if I should have brought some color film, but I am extremely glad I stuck with black and white. The island would look gorgeous in color, but I am very happy with the way these b&w images came out, and will probably go back to do some more.
