Nicholas Hughes
I recently came across the work of Nicholas Hughes, another UK photographer, and I am quite taken with it. I like the contrasts between his various series, such as the minimalist and dark seascapes from In Darkness, Visible, Verse II next to the so-pale-they’re-nearly-invisible snowy scenes of Edge, Verse II. His work comes across as cool and modern and yet quite romantic at the same time. Andy Sewell, The Heath
I’ve come across some wonderful landscape photography from the UK lately; so much so that I’ve decided to do a week of posts featuring some of the work I’ve found. I’ll kick things off with Andy Sewell, who was recommended to me by Phil Underdown. Sewell’s latest work is called The Heath, a look at a fragment of parkland in London taken over the course of five years.
Italian Photochrom prints, c. 1890
I came across this extraordinary collection of vintage Italian Photochrom prints (ink-based photolithographs, c. 1890-1900) on the Library of Congress Flickr page. They are also available as high-resolution TIFF files on the collection homepage; I’ve already downloaded a few and I’m ready to start printing.
