This was a pretty challenging photograph, from a technical point of view. In the end, I had to take it several times, and do some fancy footwork with the developer to make it happen. Unfortunately because my exposure times were kept to a minimum because of passing traffic, it’s a bit grainier than I would like. Nevertheless, I’m pretty damn happy with it.

Very nice. I see no excessive grain here- quite nice actually. Good job on bringing out the details even in the intense shadows.
Thanks, Jason. I really spent a lot of time on this one, glad you like it. I have to be very careful with the contrast on the sidewalk and in the sky, if it goes to high the grain really pops out at you. Overall I’m pretty happy with it, though, I think I am going to start working on more photos like this.
Hopperesque. The bus stop pole especially reminds me of that lone barber pole in one of Hopper’s most famous landscapes of an empty city street.
i love this one. this is the one that brought me to your site in the first place. do more of this!
Thanks! I love this one too, and I do plan to do more. I just recently got a large format camera and am working out some of the technical kinks, but I do plan to go out and do a whole bunch of night-time photography very soon.
