Fourth and Warren
It’s amazing how quickly I became sensitive to color again after shooting in black and white most of the summer. I’ve been relying on my digital camera a little bit more lately because of trouble with my film equipment. Trying to get 35mm film on a plastic reel on a humid day is like herding cats; I’ve lost a couple of rolls now, so I figured I would go easy on myself for a little while.
Reeds, Shelter Island
This is the same lake from yesterday’s photo. I think I prefer this one—not only is it technically a better photograph, but it’s more interesting, too.
Sunset Beach, Shelter Island
Sometimes you just have to go for the easy, pretty shots; going on vacation will do that to you. Now that I am back in the heat, traffic, and grime of Brooklyn, expect some grittier photographs next week!

Pacific and Vanderbilt Street. I wouldn’t expect this to last much longer, considering the overwhelming shadow of Atlantic Yards in the area.
Fulton Street and Ashland Place
This photograph is part of a new series that I’m developing about the visual vocabulary of the city landscape. Many of my photographs already fit in that category, but this series is a bit more specific. It’s about overlapping patterns and broad swaths of texture, turning representational scenes into slightly more abstract city landscapes. I think I am much more comfortable in using the visual vocabulary than speaking about it, so take a look and let me know what you think. Here are a couple of other examples that fit into this series and will hopefully come together into some sort of show at some point.
